What I offer your dog

What I offer your dog

Whether your dog is a beloved family pet, a working farm dog, an agility superstar, recovering from surgery or injury, or you just want them to enjoy their golden years - McTimoney Bodywork can help!

My Gait and Thermography service is an assessment using validated clinican tools, gait and thermography to help identify issues with elbow and hip dysplasia, or track recovery. All reports can be provided for you to share with a vet if needed, and I am happy to work alongside them if that assists you in supporting your 4 legged friend.

I offer Multiple Dog session discounts - if you would like to bring more than one canine friend per day. Discounts are also available for Session Bundles to purchase a block of sessions to support rehab from injury or surgery, or just to make treatment more financially manageable.

what to expect in a session

What happens in an canine bodywork session?

1
Step 01
Get to Know You & Your Dog

Before the first session I will take a full case history, ideally by client form as this maximises your session time, or in person with you. This will include your dog's background, workload, any known issues or history of injury, surgery, day to day routine, feed and medication.

I will look to understand any concerns you have, any changes in their well being, and what you are hoping to achieve from the treatment.

2
Step 02
Static and Dynamic Assessment
Gait and standing assessment, followed by palpation of key bony and muscle landmarks to understand your dog's body and identify any areas of tension or asymmetry, and mobilisation to identify any areas of restricted movement. This gives us a baseline to work from to assess progress.
3
Step 03
Treatment

I will work across the whole body, focusing on the areas identified in the assessment, but ensuring to cover the whole body. I will work with your dog's responses to determine the techniques used, as their comfort is paramount to the session.

I will provide targeted release work for any specific areas of tension, and finish with a technique to encourage blood flow to help the body's natural healing process.

4
Step 04
Aftercare Guidance

I will talk you through what to expect in the days after treatment — some dogs are lively, some are quiet.

I will give you specific aftercare guidance tailored to your dog and their session. I will provide you any tips, tricky or exercises which could help them, and discuss any recommendations for next steps.

What happens in a gait and thermography assessment?

1
Step 01
Get to Know You & Your Dog

For this service, it is really important that I do get a clear and detailed understanding of your dog's case history, covering background, workload, any known issues or history of injury, surgery, day to day routine, feed and medication. I will look to understand any concerns you have, any changes in their well being.

I will need to know any concerns you have, any changes from "normal" for your dog, and its great to share pictures and videos at this point. I strongly encourage you to complete the pre session form for this service ahead of time, as it leaves us the maximum time on the day for the physical evaluations.

2
Step 02
Clinical Evaluation Tools

I have compiled a list of clinical tools, backed by research to assess dog's with certain conditions such as elbow or hip dysplasia, arthritis etc.

I combine these with the use of thermography which can be used to look at the heat patterns in your dog, under the skin. While this is not a diagnostic tool, is is very helpful to identify differences in soft tissue and joints across the body, and areas which would be above clinical significance.

I will explain each as we go, and ensure you have copies of these in the findings at step 4, if you need them.

3
Step 03
Gait Assessment and
Mobilisation

I will assess your dog moving, around the clinic loose, on a lead with you inside or outside over a larger space, dependent on your preference. I will use gait analysis tools to assess in addition to my own professional training.

I will then use some gentle mobilisations of joints to check for any areas of restriction in range of motion. This will be done very carefully with no risk of pain for your dog.

4
Step 04
Findings

I will discuss findings with you, I am not a vet and cannot diagnose any condition, but I can use tools and my training to give you a clear understanding of your dog's current movement and musculoskeletal condition, and scores on the latest clinically proven assessment tools.

I can explain any areas you may be unsure of, and discuss any topics of concern. As part of my Masters programme, I am lucky enough to do a lot of research into issues such as elbow and hip dysplasia, neurological conditions and other common issues, their treatment and the latest research.

5
Step 05
Recommendations

My aim is to help you start form an informed position, demystify things for you and help you make the best choices for your 4 legged friend.

I can provide this in a written report to you, a vet, or any other professional you need to share it with. The recommendations may include lifestyle, therapy (not exclusive to my services, but could include hydrotherapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, etc) veterinary advice, or give you any exercises or recommendations for therapeutic assistance/ products which are backed by research.
